25 - 28 JULY 2006

Vision & Aim:

We are proud to announce that Somerset East will hold a Cultural Youth Festival to promote the art in the Eastern Cape. This will also be a good opportunity for the opening of our new Arts Centre at Gill College. The aim of this Youth Festival is to provide an artistic platform to celebrate all diverse cultural backgrounds and traditions. It will include the following:

  • Music (Traditional or Formal)

  • Drama (Own text or Existing)

  • Dance (Traditional or Contemporary)

  • Creative Writing (Poetry or Prose)

  • Art (Painting/Sculpture/Drawing/Printmaking)

  • Craft (Handwork)

There is a huge void in schools on a cultural level and we feel that there is a need for  a Youth Festival to promote Arts and Culture. We aim to bring learners together from all over the Eastern Cape, enabling them to share their talent and enjoy exposure of their work. This is no competition and each learner will be judged according to his/her ability. By doing this, we hope to nurture the young and upcoming artists of the future!
